Don't hold the temporary too tightly
Beware of the human tendency to hold to tightly to the temporary. In the pursuit of stability, comfort and understanding it is natural to develop a routine, have a favorite style of dress or preferred way of doing or thinking. But don't forget to check the expiration date on what you hold so dearly. Whether it be an opinion about yourself or a label you've attached to someone else, will it still be valid over time?
Once upon a time people held tightly to the belief that the world is flat. Many broken records of performances past where once held as unbreakable. Someone's favorite outfit used to look good on them, once upon a time.
Your thing may have been right for then; but what is right for now?
It was once the duty of a police officer to keep communities segragated; what about now?
It was once the responsibility of our society to educate properly; but what about now?
It was once the wife's place to serve and the husband's to be served; what about now?
It was once the color of a person's face, how they dressed, and/or status in society that was too often used to set a person's value or to identify them as potential friends or enemies.
It was once the independent life of making decisions on your own, leaving your parents home and proving that you can make it all alone, was thought to be the evidence of being grown.
It was once the steady job worked for 20, 30 or 60 years with a pension that ensured comfort in your elder years.
It was once the future.
It was once the past.
It was once the right size.
It was once the sex.
It was once the money.
It was once the po folk, the projects and those on welfare.
It was once the High School diploma, then the College degree.
It was once the big house, expensive car and exotic trips afar.
It was once the love of a lifetime for a lifetime.
It was once the government.
It was once the nation's security.
It was once someone else's responsibility.
But I have one simple question for you: what about now?

Wow, that is deep. It causes you to reflect & re-evaluate your present reality & once you've done that & you realize what needs to be re-emphasized in your life....then you're held accountable & need to do something about it.
Thanks & Have an awesome day!

Your profound words of wisdom helped me to realize that in order to go forward my ideals must change. We have to remember that we should not be the same year after year but growing. You helped me evaluate where I am, what needs to depart, and where I plan to be. But as you pointed out, some things need to stay in place such as properly educating children, the wife serving her husband and the husband being served.
Thanks Rich

This is an awesome and thought provoking question. It is important to evaluate your ideals and standards concerning the contentment of your life. It is important to accept accountability for the effect of your decisions on your life. It is important to know when things need to change and when they need to stay the same. It is important to know where you stand and why your standards may need to change. We need to look within ourselves and decide are our standards our own or what others say they should be. I'm thinking.
